Le esplorazioni del G.S. CAI Bolzaneto nell'Abisso Ferragosto - M. Marguareis

The Abisso Ferragosto (E103) has been discovered in 1980 byG.S.CAI Bolzaneto of Genova and explored in the following years reaching the depth of -509 m in 1991.

This cave opens in the "E zone" very close to the "D zone" border, a valley of glacial origin which is one of the less known and explored parts of the Marguareis-Foce System.

That is why this cave is so important. It is a vertical cave, developing in the Triassic Dolomitic Limestones of San Pietro dei Monti Formation. Its genesis is due both to a vertical fracture with NNE-SSW direction and an impermeable pelitic layer imerging south.

The bottom way is characterized by some long pitches, P.100, P.85 and a very impressive black P.60, with some difficult squeezes between them.

Exploration is still going on, through some artificial climbs at the bottom of the "Ramo del Visconte Dimezzato" (-225) following a freezing air flow towards lower entrances.
